Little Comfy Corners of the Nursery

#1 What Theme Or Colors do you Gravitate towards?

Some people like to go full on with themes (animal/princess/nature) and others just want to

put some paint on the walls! Either way, Start with some paint or a wallpaper and you will instantly start to feel the nursery come to life! I painted Nyah's nursery from a cream color to white and it made a world of difference!! Make sure to always pick various paint squares at the store and look at them in natural light, to ensure the right hue!

When creating Nyah's nursery the words that kept coming to mind were:

Light-Feminine-Timeless

To get the look I wanted I knew I had to go with white paint, but I also wanted a feature wall! I bounced back and forth between wallpapers, unfortunately the ones I kept picking were 4 hundred dollars! Thats Nuts! I chose to get a little creative with help from my handsome hubby! We picked up some ceiling tiles at #homedepot and attached them to the wall with gorilla glue and a little patience! It turned out AMAZING, and the great things is that they can be painted any color you want! I really liked them white as they were but we chose to go ahead and paint them a light pink.. Aaron Loved it, I did not! A simple baby pink changed the look of the entire room!! The crib looked darker, and surrounding decor items took on a pink hue!

So now I have a pink feature wall that I have to paint back white, and thats okay! Its apart of the fun. Sometimes we think were going to like an idea but then its not at all what we wanted. It's just a little paint! So have fun with it.

#2 How can I make this space functional and organized?

When it comes to organizing a nursery all I can think of is baskets, designated spaces and Marie condo! Its important to have a designated comfortable space to change your baby, I highly recommend not skipping the changing table/dresser! Think of your back, trust me! Close by I have a drawer just for diapers, creams, lotions, sanitizer. Its all right there so there is no turning away from baby while she's on the changing station. Also a nice big rocking chair is ideal! One you can nurse in, cry in and fall asleep in! I didn't invest in one for our first baby and it was my BIGGEST regret!

I went to on a basket shopping spree one day- dollar store, Walmart, & Michaels. I chose to get 2 of each-different styles and sizes! These now sit on the top shelf in Nyah's closet holding everything from bibs, burp clothes, tights, socks, and wipes! Its helped so much to have these things organized before baby comes. The things you will use everyday will have a home and will always be in that spot! No stressful panic moments wondering where anything is!

Folding things the Marie Condo way, it seriously helps immensely when you can see everything right in front of you! She has a method to her madness if you haven't watched the Netflix series- Get on it! It changed the way I fold and put away everything!

#3 Can I tell a story with special sentimental items?

Sometimes there a pieces of furniture, pictures, clothing that hold sentimental value to us that are left aside and never used. Maybe we think it won't fit the space or style we want but those pieces are the most important to add. They tell a story, a story you can tell to your child one day. Those pieces warm your heart and create moments of true reflection on past memories! The power in that is beautiful.

Nyah's middle name is Roxy, after my late Aunt, she meant a lot to me and I knew I had to incorporate her into Nyah's room somehow! I had an old button up shirt she use to wear, it had been hanging in my closed for 11 years! And now It was going to have purpose again. I took it took a local hobby girl and she turned it into a teddy bear, with "Roxy Bear" stitched into the side! How sweet is that! Now Nyah will have this bear to snuggle, it will spark questions and conversation of the amazingly strong women she is named after!

I also added little touches, the name bar above her dresser, the maternity photos, and for some reason I am drawn to circles! Something about the never ending smooth shape. It brings the words gentle, quite and calm to mind. Nyah spends every change looking up at that wall, I think she enjoys it too!

#4 Will my baby sleep in here?

That beautiful brand new baby is going to be sleeping in your room in a bassinet for the first 6-8 weeks. After that its time for the nursery!! So will your baby sleep? I don't know about you but I had a lot of anxiety around this! Some key things I included in Nyah's Nursery to ensure a better sleep:

A black out shade- In the summer it stays light until 10PM here, your baby will sleep 100X better in a dark room!

A noise machine- Get one! White noise truly does wonders, put it on every nap and at bed time. Your baby will always know when its time to sleep.

Nap time- I was kindly gifted with a Snuggle Me Organic - and it saved my sanity! Babies love to be snuggled and sometimes putting them down can be daunting! During nap time I would put Nyah in her snuggle me and she would sleep so well, Still does!

#5 Can my baby grow into this space?

Its important to ask yourself this, so you won't have to spend a lot of money when transitioning your child through the years! I know its hard to believe but that little baby of yours will grow up! Can you take this nursery and easily accommodate a toddler or middle aged kid by just adding:

  • New bedding

  • Pictures

  • Rug

  • Paint

Think ahead a little and make sure you can picture your child in this space for years to come!

I hope this blog post helped you out in creating the nursery of your dreams!!!
